Webinar: Postponement of First International Conference on Informal Work following devastating earthquake in Colombia
The earthquake which hit the proposed venue at the Universidad del Valle has forced this event to be postponed to 2027. Those who submitted abstracts have been informed and will be notified when the new date is known. In the meantime, abstracts submissions to the Conference will remain open for consideration in the 2027 program.
As a preview to the conference in 2027, the Universidad del Valle along with the Global Coalition on Informal Work and its member organisations will offer a 90-minute webinar on 11th November, 2026, with a few select topics from the planned program and a moderated discussion with some keynote speakers and worker representatives.

First International Conference on Informal Work, Health Safety and Wellbeing
Postponed: It is expected that the Conference can be held in 2017 but damage to the venue is currently being assessed. Repairs will take place as resources allow. ALL WHO HAVE SUBMITTED ABSTRACTS HAVE BEEN CONTACTED WITH FURTHER INFORMATION. Abstract submission remains open for the present time and abstracts will be assessed as received.
This conference is being hosted by the University of Valle, in Cali, Colombia. It is organised under the auspices of the GCIW in close collaboration with the international professional organisations represented in the GCIW and other partners. Presentations will be given by experts in occupational health and safety and other organisations concerned with the wellbeing of workers. There will be workshops and panels with representatives and workers from various informal work areas, mainly in Latin America.
The Conference languages will be English and Spanish, with translation between these languages provided. The Conference will be offered both in person in Cali and online, anywhere in the world.

Hybrid Symposium on Design Thinking and Informal Sectors held 13 December, 2025
A One-Day Symposium (hybrid) on Design Thinking and Informal Sectors, was held in Kolkata, India, on 13th December 2025. This event was jointly organized with the Indian Society of Ergonomics, ICOH Scientific Committee on Small Scale Enterprises and Informal Sector, and the IEA Technical Committee on Informal Work. In total 167 people participated (32 in-person) for the eight-hour presentation day. A recording of the Symposium presentations is available on YouTube.
