About us
Formation of the Global Coalition
Objective and purpose
The GCIW was formed to implement one of the provisions of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), International Ergonomics Association (IEA), and International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA) in 2024, specifically regarding the promotion of experience exchange and the improvement of working conditions of people in informal employment sectors around the world.
The GCIW vision is to empower informal workers to prevent occupational diseases and injuries by minimising workplace risk factors. The main activity of the association is to exchange research, good practice examples and effective implementation of policies to improve the lives of informal workers. To do this, the GCIW organises conferences, conducts research, highlights publications and creates working groups for specific expertise / topics. It encourages contributions from informal workers around the world to describe their needs and to propose improvements of their working conditions.
The association does not pursue any commercial purposes and is not for profit. Its governing body performs their function on a voluntary basis. The association is independent in terms of politics and religion. The GCIW abides by the ICOH International Code of Ethics for Occupation Health Professionals.
